The solution of two lines is when they have the same x and y values, graphically the same point in the coordinate system. If they are equal y=y so we can say:

x+5=-2x-1

3x+5=-1

3x=-6

x=-3, making y=x+5 become: y=-3+5=2 so the solution is the point;

(-3, 2)
