Kayla is building a rectangular garden in her backyard and is planning out the design on a coordinate plane where each unit represents 1 foot. The vertices of the garden are (3, 6), (3, 9), (8, 9) and (8, 6). She needs to figure out the area of her garden in order to decide how much soil to buy. What is the area of her garden in square feet? Show your work.

Please explain how this is done.

I'm more visual, so graphing helps. If you have to do problems like this on the test and your teacher allows scratch paper, use graph paper so you can make a graph when you need to.
