The 1961 American invasion of the Bay of Pigs in Cuba was launched by president Kennedy in order to overthrow Raul Castro. Organized by the CIA, the mission was unsuccessful because Cubans did not rise up and rebel like the US believed they would. Therefore, when the Democratic Revolutionary Front (formed by Cuban exiles) landed there to fight, they were massacred by Cuban troops.
