The country name China's origin is because of the Qin Dynasty, and that the word 'Qin' sounded sort of like 'Chin.' Basically, they got it's name from a dynasty.

One popular theory is that China got its name from the Qin Dynasty which was the first imperial dynasty to bring the various political divisions of China together as a single country. "Qin" is pronounced as "chin" ... sounds a bit like "China".
