Carlos baked pies for a Party. He cut some pies into 6 pieces and some into 8 pieces. After the party, more than 2 halfs (2 1/2) were left but less than 3 pies were left. How much pie might have been left?

Hmm. I'm not so sure, but maybe 2 3/4. You can layout the numbers like 2, 2 1/4, 2 2/4, 2 3/4, 2 4/4 of 3. 2 2/4 can be simplified into 2 1/2 and 2 3/4 is definitely larger than 2 1/2 and less than 3. :)

after the party 2 1/2 pies were left. but less than 3.
3 - (2 1/2) = 1/2
3 pies minus 2 1/2 is equal to .5 or 1/2 pies
