\begin{gathered} 3x+4-x=5x-10-x \\ \end{gathered}

Add like terms:

\begin{gathered} 2x+4=4x-10 \\ \end{gathered}

subtract 2x from both sides:

\begin{gathered} 2x+4-2x=4x-10-2x \\ 4=2x-10 \end{gathered}

Add 10 to both sides:

\begin{gathered} 4+10=2x-10+10 \\ 14=2x \end{gathered}

Divide both sides by 2:

\begin{gathered} (2x)/(2)=(14)/(2) \\ x=7 \end{gathered}
