1. x =(8-√76)/2=4-√ 19 = -0.359
2. x =(8+√76)/2=4+√ 19 = 8.359

(-0.359, 8.359) will be the solution set.

Explanation:

The given equation is x² - 8x - 3 = 0

We have to get the solution set for the equation.

We will apply the quadratic formula to get the solution.

x=\frac{-b\pm \sqrt{b^(2)-4ac}}{2a}=(8\pm √(64+4* 3))/(2)=(8\pm √(64+12))/(2)=(8\pm √(76))/(2)=(8\pm 2√(19))/(2)=4\pm √(19)

Therefore solution set of the equation will be

(-0.359, 8.359)
