A sample of gas occupies a volume of 690.8 mL and has a pressure of 701.3 torr. What will the pressure of the sample of gas be if the volume is decreased to 235 mL? Be sure to include units with your answer. DO NOT use scientific notation for your answer. DO NOT use a space between the numerical value and the units (i.e. a volume of 1.35 L would be recorded as 1.35L, not 1.35 L).

We are given :

• volume = V1 = 690.8mL

• pressure = P1 = 701.3 torr

,

• volume = V2 = 235 mL

We know that at constatnt temperature;

P1V1=P2V2

∴P2 = (P1*V1)/V2

= (701.3torr* 690.8ml)/235ml

= 2061.52torr

This means that the pressure of the sample of gas will be 2061.5torr
