4 * side^2 = diagonal1 ^2 + diagonal2 ^2
4 * side^2 = 12^2 + 16^2
4 * side^2 = 144 + 256
4 * side^2 = 400
side^2 = 100
side = 10
So the perimeter = 4*10 = 40
