At maximum speed, an airplane travels 2460 miles against the wind in 6 hours. flying with the wind, the plane can travel the same distance in 5 hours.

what is the speed of the plane in no wind?

let speed of aeroplane = a mph
speed of wind = w mph

an airplane travels 2460 miles against the wind in 6 hours
6(a-w) = 2460
a -w = 410 ------------(1)

flying with the wind, the plane can travel the same distance in 5 hours
5(a+w) = 2460
a+w = 492 -------------(2)

adding (1) and (2)
2a = 902
a = 902/2 = 451 mph

Speed of aeroplane with no wind is 451 mph
