The correct answer is A.

The establishment of democratic goverments in Europe was learnt by the inhabitants of the European colonies, and they started first to claim their rights in order to elect their political representatives, as citizens in the metropolis did.

These claims were not listened to in most cases, and soon claims went further and colonies started to claim and fight for independence. In many cases, colonial control was overthrown through military conflicts and battles against the colonizers.
