1/2x - 8 = -3/2x + 2
First, we want to get x alone on one side of the equation. We can do this by adding 8 to each side, to cancel out the -8.
1/2x = -3/2x + 10
Next, we need to put all x's on the same side; by adding 3/2x to both sides.
4/2x = 10
(simplified) 2x = 10
Next, divide both sides by 2
x = 5
