The triangle has another smaller triangle inserted into it as shown by the parallel lines.

By applying the side splitter theorem, the sides of the triangle becomes


\begin{gathered} (11)/(44)=(x)/(36) \\ \text{This means the proportion formed by the two lines on one side is equal to that formed by the two lines on the other side} \\ \text{Cross multiply and you have;} \\ 44x=11*36 \\ x=(11*36)/(44) \\ x=(1*36)/(4) \\ x=9 \end{gathered}

Therefore x = 9
