The English language is typically divided into three historical periods (option "C")

The Old English or Anglo Saxon which was brought to Britain due to the Anglo-Saxon invasions. It was spoken in England and Scotland between 450-1100 AD (early Middle Ages).

The Middle English, which appeared after the Norman conquest in 1066, a nd was influenced by the French. It replaced the Old English; however, the Middle English was considered the language of the upper classes.

The Modern English was spoken since the beginning of the Tudors (15th century) and spread through the British Empire colonies during the 18th century.
