Line LN is compounded by segments LM and MN. The lenght of segment LM is fixed (1.3), and we need to find how long should segment MN be so the whole segment LN has a length of 5.7.

The length of segment LN is the sum of lengths of segments LM and MN. Writing it as an equation:

LN=LM+MN

We an replace the values we know in the equation:

5.7=1.3+MN

Now, we just need to solve for MN:

\begin{gathered} MN=5.7-1.3 \\ \\ MN=4.4 \end{gathered}

Segment MN should have a length of 4.4 for the segment LN to be 5.7. Correct answer is option D.
