1 1/8 - 3/4 =
9/8 - 3/4 =
9/8 - 6/8 =
3/8...so she ran 3/8 miles per day

what u have is an arithmetic sequence with a common difference of 3/8.
And we are looking for the fifth term...

an = a1 + d(n - 1)
n = term we want to find = 5
a1 = first term = 3/4
d = common difference = 3/8
now we sub
a(5) = 3/4 + 3/8(5 - 1)
a(5) = 3/4 + 3/8(4)
a(5) = 3/4 + 12/8
a(5) = 6/8 + 12/8
a(5) = 18/8 reduces to 9/4 or 2 1/4 miles <== jogged on 5th day
