Turbidity currents is associated with downslope movements of dense sediment-rich water.

A turbidity current is a rapid, downslope movement of water caused by increased density as a result of huge amounts of sediment in the water. Turbidity currents can also be caused by collapsing slopes, by earthquakes when there is separation of mud and sand on the continental shelf or by other geological disruptions.
