What are the similarities and differences between the age of exploration and age of imperialism?

I'd like a paragraph but a short statement would be nice.

Exploration: They mostly just went to go explore the land, and usually did not leave behind settlements or claimed little land for themselves
Imperialism, however, they went to a land, tried to keep it, and fought other countries over the rights of the land
