The following table gives the outside temperature in degrees Fahrenheit on a summer afternoon:

Time (pm) Temperature (°F)
12:00 78
1:00 82
3:15 88
4:30 93
6:00 91

a. Calculate the average rate of change between consecutive data points in the table.

A.
For 12 - 1,
82 - 78 = 4 degrees per hour

For 1 - 3:15,
(88 - 82) / 2.25 = 2.67 degrees per hour

For 3:15 - 4:30,
(93 - 88) / 1.25 = 4 degrees per hour

For 4:30 to 6,
(91 - 93) / 1.5 = 1.33 degrees per hour

The time intervals 12 to 1 and 3:15 to 4 had the fastest rate of change
