Data:
If:
2 red pencils → 25% or 0.25
So:
"y" pencils → 75% or 0.75

The rule of three: (directly proportional)

(2)/(y) = (0.25)/(0.75)
multiply cross

0.25*y = 2*0.75

0.25y = 1.5

y = (1.5)/(0.25)

\boxed{y = 6\:pencils}

how many pencils are in his backpack?
Add the values of the pencils

\boxed{\boxed{2 + 6 = 8\:pencils}}\end{array}}\qquad\quad\checkmark
