Total pool 40x20=800
20x10=200for recreational
Now 800-200=600 for swim team

Total pool = 40 by 20, or 800 feet
Recreational = 20 by 10, or 200 feet

Subtract the recreational part of the pool from the total pool, your answer should be:

600 square feet are reserved for the swim team.
