Explanation:

x + 3y = 1

x = 1 - 3y-(i)

7x + 8y = 11

x= 11-8y/7-(ii)

substituting eqn (i) in eqn (ii)

11-8y/7= 1-3y

11-8y=7-21y

13y=-4

y=-4/13

putting the value of y in eqn (i)

x=1-(-12/13)

x=25/13
