John is twice as old as Mary. The sum of their ages is 52. How old is Mary? If J = John's age and M = Mary's age, which system of equations could be used to solve the problem?

Let, the age of Mary = M
Age of John = J = 2M

System of Equation would be: M + J = 52
or M + 2M = 52
3M = 52
M = 52/3
M = 17 1/3 Years
J = 34 2/3 Years

Hope this helps!
