A CD of classical guitar music contains 5 songs. The length of each song is shown in the table; Track 1 is 6.5 minutes, Track 2 is 8 minutes, Track 3 is 3.93 minutes, Track 4 is 4.1 minutes, and Track 5 is 5.05 minutes: Part A between each song is a 0.05 minute break. How long is does it take to listen to the CD from the beginning of the first song to the end of the last song? Part B Juan wants to buy the CD from an internet music site. He downloads the CD onto a disc that can hold up to 60 minutes of music. How many more minutes of music can he still buy after downloading the CD?

Part A - 27.78 minutes. Add all the times together including the 0.05 break that is repeated four times.
Part B - 32.22 minutes. Subtract 27.78 from 60.

Answer:

Part A)
27.78\ min

Part B)
32.22\ min

Explanation:

Part A)

Let

t1=6.5\ min ----> length song
1

t2=8\ min ----> length song
2

t3=3.93\ min ----> length song
3

t4=4.1\ min ----> length song
4

t5=5.05\ min ----> length song
5

b=0.05\ min -----> break between each song

we know that

The length of the CD is equal to

(t1+t2+t3+t4+t5)+4(b)

substitute the values

(6.5+8+3.93+4.1+5.05)+4(0.05)=27.58+0.20=27.78\ min

Part B)

Subtract the total length of the CD from
60 minutes of music

so

(60-27.78)=32.22\ min
