A base unit or fundamental unit is a unit adopted for measurement of a base quantity.

and derived unit are those that are derived by the use of fundamental unit !

main difference is ......
There are seven fundamental quantities and they cannot be further broken down but the derived units can be many and they can be broken down to fundamental ones !

examples....meter,gram,candela,ampere, etc are fundamental......and derived are area,volume,speed etc
