To get the inverse of this function you need two steps. First, we leave the variable
x alone in the function. Finally, write
f^(-1)(x) where you see the letter
x and
x where you see the letter
y.

First step:

Leave the variable
x alone.


  • y=3x-7

  • y+7=3x

  • (y+7)/(3)=x

Last step:

Make lettering according to the rule above.
