(1/2) / (1/3) = (2 1/4) / x......1/2 mile to 1/3 hr = 2 1/4 miles to x hrs
cross multiply because this is a proportion
(1/2)(x) = (1/3)(9/4)
1/2x = 3/4
x = 3/4 * 2/1
x = 6/4 = 1 1/2.....so it will take 1 1/2 hrs
