Let x be that number. So 6% of x is 102.
In this sentence, the word "of" represents a multiplication. So we can get the equation 6% * x = 102.
Every percentage is a fraction which denominator is 100. So 6% = 6/100 = 0.06
So 0.06x = 102
Divide each side by 0.06 to get x alone on a side and its value on the other side:
(0.06x)/(0.06) = 102/0.06
x = 1700.

So 102 is 6% of 1700.

You can recheck your answer (very important):
6% of 1700 = 0.06 * 1700 = 102
The answer has been approved.

Hope this Helps! :)

be x the number we don't know
6%*x=12
(6/100)*x=102
(6x)/100=102
6x=102*100
6x=10200
x=10200/6
x=1700
