How do you check your answer when solving a two step equation?

this is the equation I'm working on.

-2q-5 = -11

+5 +5

-2q = -6

÷(-2) ÷(-2)

q = 3

Check: -2 (3)-3 = 11


as you can see, I started to check my answer, but they're confused on what to do next.

You didnt plug it into the correct equation, it should have been plugged into:
-2q - 5 = -11

-2(3) - 5 = -11
-6 - 5 = -11
-11 = -11
