Answer:

17

Explanation:

let the 4 consecutive odd numbers be n , n + 2 , n + 4 , n + 6 , then

n + n + 2 + n + 4 + n + 6 = 56 , that is

4n + 12 = 56 ( subtract 12 from both sides )

4n = 44 ( divide both sides by 4 )

n = 11

n + 2 = 11 + 2 = 13

n + 4 = 11 + 4 = 15

n + 6 = 11 + 6 = 17

The 4 consecutive odd numbers are 11 , 13 , 15 , 17

with the greatest being 17

Answer:

Let the number be x,

then the consecutive numbers shall be x + 2, x + 4, x + 6

x + x + 2 + x + 4 + x + 6 = 56

4x = 56 - 12

4x = 44

x = 11

other consecutive numbers are = 11 + 2, 11 + 4, 11 + 6

= 13, 15, 17

  • the greatest of the four is 17
  • the least of the four is 11
