Breast milk confers immunity to infants that suckle due to the fact that milk contains immunoglobulin such as IgGs. The microbiome in the milk of the mother also defines the gut microbiome of infant. The nutrients in the milk (proteins, fats, vitamins and carbohydrates) help nourish the child and spur its growth.
