What two numbers multiply to 12 and add to get 4?

12 ÷ 2 = 6

Check it to make sure.

2 × 6 = 12

6 and 2 can be multiplied to get 12.


But we still need two numbers that can be added to get 4 that can also be multiplied to get 12. So let's see if 6 and 2 can be added to get 4

We can subtract 6 from 2 to get 4 but that is subtraction, not addition.
2 - 6 = -4
