The distance you travel while hiking is a function of how fast you hike and how long you hike at this rate. You usually maintain a speed of three miles per hour while hiking. Write an equation that represents this function, letting t represent the independent variable, let h represent the function, and h(t) the dependent variable. Evaluate h(7) and write a sentence describing its meaning. Write the result as an ordered pair.

We want to find the function for the distance and this depends on the speed and time. The faster and longer you walk, the greater the distance. The relationship is proportional.
Therefore the serious function could be:
h (t) = Vt
Where V is the speed.
In the case of hiking, the speed is 3 miles per hour.
So:
h (t) = 3t.
h (7) = 21 miles.
The distance traveled in 7 hours is 21 miles
