Answer:

It was the largest predominantly chinese city on the malay peninsula

Step-by-step explanation:

Kuala Lumpur is the capital city of Malaysia, is also the largest city in this country and represents a multicultural city where there are mixtures of various different cultures that has caused an ethical mix across the country. Despite being a multicultural city, Kuala Lumpur was once the largest predominantly Chinese city in the Malay Peninsula, the result of this being that among the main predominant cultures in the city Malay-Chinese culture is the largest and most influential of them, as a reflection of Chinese occupation in Malay territory.

I would say it's that Kuala Lumpur was the largest predominantly Chinese city on the Malay peninsula.

Kuala Lumpur is not on the coast. In colonial times Port Swettenham, about 40 miles southwest of Kuala Lumpur, served as the main port. Today that location is still the main gateway port for Malaysia, but is known as Port Klang.

Kuala Lumpur was a British colonial administrative center (not French).

"More than a century ago" is ambiguous. If we go back to the 1880s, that's when Kuala Lumpur's growth was picking up. The town went from a population of around 4,000 in the early 1880s to 20,000 in 1890. By 1920, the population was 80,000.

Chinese settlers were a large factor in the population growth of Kuala Lumpur. British colonial administrator Frank Slettenham referred to it back in the 1870s as "a "purely Chinese village." The Chinese population remains strong in the area today. As of 2015 statistics, persons of Chinese ethnicity make up 39% of the population of Kuala Lumpur.
