Dr. Segal's views are most consistent with the "Social learning theory" of gender-role development.

Social learning theory regards gender identity and role as an arrangement of practices that are found out from nature. The principle way that sexual orientation practices are found out is through the procedure of observational learning. Kids watch the general population around them carrying on in different routes, some of which identify with sexual orientation. They focus on a portion of these individuals and encode their conduct.
