y=x+50

We would add x, the number of sparrows in the tree, to 50, the number in the ground.

The number of sparrows on the tree = x

The number of sparrows beneath the tree on the ground = 50

Now the question says

y represent the total number of sparrows in the tree and on the ground.

And we have to express y in terms of x

Now when y represent the total number of sparrows in the tree and on the ground

We get

y = number of sparrows on tree + number of sparrows on the ground

That implies

y = x+ 50,

So this is how we express y in terms of x

y= x+50
