The answer is the thymus. Thymus is the endocrine gland that is responsible for the release of a hormone that stimulates t-cell development and proper immune response in children. The hormone is thymosin, which stimulates the development of disease-fighting T cells. The thymus gland will not function throughout a full lifetime, however it has a big role when active- that is, helping the body to protect itself against autoimmunity, which occurs when the immune system attacks itself.
