Hey there :)

1 (4)/(5) + 1(6)/(10)

Change mixed fraction into an improper fraction

(9)/(5) + (16)/(10)

(16)/(10) : are both even numbers, so you can further simplify by dividing by 2

(16/2)/(10/2) = (8)/(5)

To add fractions, we need same denominator to proceed. Here we have no problem since both denominators are 5

(9)/(5)+ (8)/(5) = (9+8)/(5)

(17)/(5)

As a mixed fraction:
3 (2)/(5)
______________________________________________________

2 (3)/(4) - 1(2)/(8)

Let us change the mixed fraction into an improper fraction:

(11)/(4) - (10)/(8)

(10)/(8) : You can further simplify this since both are divisible by 2

(10/2)/(8/2) = (5)/(4)

We have the same denominator set for subtraction, so you do not have to find common denominators

(11)/(4)- (5)/(4) = (11-5)/(4)

(6)/(4)

As a mixed fraction:
1(2)/(4) = 1(1)/(2)
