Hello!

You solve this algebraically

5(y - 2) = 35

Distribute the 5

5y - 10 = 35

Add 10 to both sides

5y = 45

Divide both sides by 5

y = 9

The answer is 9

Hope this helps!

5(y - 2) = 35

Distribute the 5 to both y and -2

5(y) = 5y
5(-2) = -10

5y - 10 = 35

isolate the y, do the opposite of PEMDAS. Note that what you do to one side you do to the other (because of the equal sign)

5y - 10 = 35

5y - 10 (+10) = 35 (+10)

5y = 35 + 10

5y = 45

5y/5 = 45/5

y = 45/5

y = 9

A.9, is your answer

hope this helps
