AB IS 12 because CD is 12 (rectangles have two pairs of equal sides)

BC IS 5 ^same rule above.

AC is point A connecting point C through the rectangle which is calculated by using the Pythagorean triangle theorem

You’ll see that the rectangle is split into two right triangles.

The formula for the theorem is a^2+b^2=c^2

a and b are two side lengths and c is the longest side (hypotenuse)

So in this case 5^2+12^2=c^2 where c^2 is side AC
