The southern manifesto "repudiated the Supreme Court decision in Brown v. Board of Education."

In 1956 government officials from southern states issued the Declaration of Constitutional Principles otherwise called Southern Manifesto. It criticized the Supreme Court's choice on account of Brown v. Leading body of Education as a break of states' rights and blamed it for maltreatment of legal power. The Manifesto was marked by 19 legislators and 77 individuals from the House of Representatives from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.
