7+17=3y+5y
24=8y
(24/8)=(8/8)y
3=y

Hello!
You can solve this algebraically
7 - 5y = 3y - 17
Add 5y to both sides
7 = 8y - 17
Add 17 to both sides
24 = 8y
Divide both sides by 8
3 = y
The answer is 3
Hope this helps!
