A gallon is 128 fluid ounces, so there were 640 ounces in Tom's full tank.
He filled a total volume of
.. 6*16 +(1/2)*128 = 96 +64 = 160 ounces
The tank has left
.. 640 -160 = 480 . . . . ounces of water
