To solve quadratics, the most correct and effective way, in my opinion, is the quadratic formula:

{\displaystyle x={\frac {-b\pm {\sqrt {b^(2)-4ac}}}{2a}}.}

Plugging it in, we get:

(-4\pm √(16+72) )/(12) = (-4\pm 2√(22))/(12) = (-2\pm √(22) )/(6)

So the final answer is:

( √(22)-2 )/(6) and
(-2- √(22) )/(6)
