9/12 = 3/4 = 0.75 You could let your calculator do that
1/3 = 0.3333333

0.75 - 0.3333333 = 0.4166667
9/12 is bigger because you get a positive answer.

Method 2
Or you could stick with the fractions
9/12 - 1/3
You need to put the 1/3 into a fraction over 12

`(1)/(3) * (4)/(4) = (4)/(12)`

9/12 - 4/12 = 5/12.
9/12 is still bigger because you get a positive result.
