Since they both have halves you do 1/2 minus 1/2 and get nothing then tyour left with 3-2 which equals 1.

this can be rewritten as 3.5 - 2.5 and the solution to that is 1 because the 0.5s cancel out so you can just turn it into 3 - 2 which is equal to 1.
