Apartheid was the name given to the segregation system that was operating in South Africa from 1948 until the 1990s decade. The country was organized based on white supremacy.

Facilities and social events and interactions were designed in such a way that ocurred separately for blacks and whites. Moreover, housing and employment opportunities were also different in terms of race.

Nelson Mandela was the black South African leader who dedicated his life to fight against this situation, and after spending a long period in prison he was released in 1991 and he could participate in the first democratic and multiracial elections of 1994.
