the first step to solving this is to remove the first set of parenthesis
2x + 2 - (3x + 11)
when there is a "-" sign in front of the parenthesis,, you change the sign of each term in the parenthesis.
2x + 2 - 3x - 11
collect the like terms,, first we will collect the numbers with an x with them.
-x + 2 - 11
finally,, calculate the difference between the two numbers
-x - 9
this means that the correct answer to your question is -x - 9

subtract like terms

2x - 3x = -1x (or -x)
2 - 11 = -9

-x - 9 is your answer
