Say you know two points on a line segment and their coordinates are (6, 3) and (12, 7). Find the midpoint using the midpoint formula. (xM,yM)=(x1+x22,y1+y22).

Answer:

midpoint coordinates are (8.5, 10)

Explanation:

Let O be the midpoint of the segment MN

Let (xM, yM) be the coordinates of M and

let (xN, yN) be the coordinates of N

Then the x-coordinate of O, xO = (xM + xN)/2 = (10 + 7)/2 = 8.5

y-coordinate of O = (yM + yN)/2 = (8 + 12)/2 = 10

So the midpoint coordinates are (8.5, 10)
