Further testing reveals this is a strain of

e. coli o157:h7. what virulence factor produced by this strain could cause the heart and lung damage observed in this case?

Virulence is the qualitative or quantitative assessment of pathogenically which measures the degree of the disease that is caused by pathogens.

Virulence factor which is produced by e. Coli 0157:h7and could cause the heart and lung damage include

(i) Capsular and flagella antigens

(ii) Type 111 secretion systems

(iii) Shiga-like toxins (SLTS)

(iv) Endotoxin.

E. coli0157:h7 is not complicated most patients fully recover after about ten days and it is self-limiting. It can be spread through milk, cheese, yoghurt, tomatoes and soya beans.
